World of Beatrix Potter, Bowness-on-Windermere

With the new Peter Rabbit film released in 2018 there’s a lot of focus on Windermere and the Lake District. So it’s a great time to think about visiting the World of Beatrix Potter, Bowness-on-Windermere.

The author of the original book, Beatrix Potter, spent many a childhood holiday visiting the Lakes. Although she probably didn’t stay in a spa hotel with hot tub! In her later life having bought property in Cumbria, Potter spent her final days in a place she loved to call home.

About the Attraction

The museum plays homage to one of the Nations favourite authors, with something new to see in every corner. You can meet all your favourite characters from her books, Squirrel Nutkin, Benjamin Bunny, Mr. Tod and of course Peter himself.

You’ll get a short introduction film, followed by a 3d journey into Mr Tod’s underground house. Find out what’s cooking in Mrs Tiggy-winkle’s Kitchen or who’s visiting Mr Jeremy Fisher on his lily-pad boat.

Then there’s Mr McGregor’s Greenhouse, where Peter Rabbit creates all kinds of mischief. The exhibition then ventures out to the private gardens, much like those available Aphrodite’s Spa Suites! The award winning gardens are heavily inspired by those illustrated by Beatrix Potter.

Getting to the World of Beatrix Potter

If you’re already staying in Windermere, the attraction is well signposted. You can take a short walk to the museum from your Windermere Boutique Spa Suite, enjoying the views along the way.

Don’t worry if you don’t fancy the walk, there are 2 bus routes available or you can always stop off having enjoyed a relaxing boat ride.

If you are taking the car, then you can still drive from door to door. Your spa suite will come with it’s own private parking space. The World of Beatrix Potter is opposite a public pay and display car park, but remember to allow enough time for your visit.

Events at the World of Beatrix Potter

Comedian James Corden may be voicing Peter Rabbit in the new movie, but if you want to hug a bunny – Peter will sure to make an appearance this April. There’s also time for a family friendly Easter egg hunt and regular children’s tea parties.

If you’ve left the little ones at home or your away on a romantic spa break, you can still visit the attraction. There’s a Peter Rabbit musical taking place during may to June, which could prove a fun way to spend an afternoon for everyone.

Then there’s the gift shop, it may be a children’s story but memorabilia is for all ages. You may find a gift for someone back home, collectables that are unique to the Lake District or a cuddly toy. If you want to remind yourself of the Peter Rabbit story, then purchase a book to take back to your Windermere hotel suite. What better way to relax in the hot tub than enjoying a good read.
