Windermere Walks

Windermere Walks

Join one of several Windermere walks and explore the Lake District National Park on foot. The area around the town of Windermere has been popular since trains first started arriving in the Victorian times, and similar to many seaside towns the area was developed for tourism after this. Bowness was also developed to attract tourists to the lake, and today offers plenty of attractions, including boutique hotels, spa hotels, restaurants and country pubs.

Windermere Boutique Spa Suites offer stunning accommodation in the Lakes and are perfect if you are celebrating a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. Windermere was originally made up of three different hamlets which joined together when the railway arrived in the late 19th century. Many sailing boats are moored at Bowness, where visitors can also enjoy steamer trips across Windermere. There are also plenty of attractions at Newby Bridge at the southern end of Windermere which can be accessed via boat.

The hills around Windermere are generally lower, softer and covered in woodland, full of nooks and crannies for intrepid explorers who don´t want to venture too far from the comfort of their Windermere spa suite. A little further afield, Kendal offers plenty to see and do for visitors of all ages, and offers excellent access to the Kentmere and Longsleddale valleys, which are both favourites with walkers. A few miles south, walkers can stop off for refreshments at a couple of good pubs in Staveley. This medieval town also boasts attractive architecture and a picturesque village square. If you are looking for tranquility, head up to Longsleddale. The road will not take you as far as Haweswater but your legs will! The nearest valley to Windermere is Troutbeck, which refers to both the valley and the village of the same name. Troutbeck is a pretty village, offering excellent walks and a choice of good pubs.

Windermere Walks

Enjoy the walk from Windermere up Orrest Head, which is a simple climb from the centre of Windermere to a fine viewpoint. Gummer´s How is an easy climb up a rugged fell towards the south of the lake. If you are looking for something a little more challenging, walk the Kentmere Horseshoe, which will take an entire day to complete.

If you are planning to stay in Windermere, why not book into a Windermere Boutique Spa Suite and make the most of your time in the Lakes.
