Windermere Epic Lakes Swim

Windermere Epic Lakes Swim

The Windermere Epic Lakes Swim is brought to you in association with Epic Events. It’s the last for the summer of the Epic Lakes Open Water Swim Series, within the shores of Lake Windermere.

Where and When is the Windermere Epic Lakes Swim?

The Windermere Epic Lakes Swim takes place Sunday 15th September 2019. The meeting point is at YMCA Lakeside, Newby Bridge, Lakeside, LA12 8BD.

As always there are 3 distances to choose from. The highlight being the gruelling 5km starting at 8am, followed by 1 mile swim at 11.30am before the more humble 500 meters taking place at 1.30pm.

Whichever distance you’re thinking of trying out, make sure you train hard and concentrate on your personal fitness. If however, you’re just thinking of spectating then book your spa suite and hotels in Windermere soon, as the Epic Lakes Swim is only a month away.

What do I Need to Enter?

Although anyone can enter, providing you fit into the minimum age criteria, it is highly recommended that you have previous experience of wild swimming. It is compulsory to wear a wetsuit unless you can provide evidence of previous event swimming without one. In which case ensure you can do so at point of entry.

Likewise, if you do decide to partake in the event as a “skin swimmer” you will, therefore, need a tow float. This is due to health and safety being taken very seriously, especially as the unpredictability of wild swimming is unlike the comfort of a pool.

As for anything else, neoprene hats, socks and gloves are also recommended. While our personal suggestion would be to have a Windermere spa suite with hot tub awaiting you once you’ve swim across the finish line!

How much is the Windermere Epic Lakes Swim?

The cost of taking part in this years Windermere Epic Lakes Swim is £20, £25 or £30. Prices depending on which distance you wish to enter. Included within your entrance fee is a medal and swim cap for every swimmer, along with chip timing and safety cover. Meanwhile, the fees also cover professional photographers, pictures will be available to download shortly after the event.

Competition entries are currently open, right up until the 12th September 2019. As such giving you plenty of time to still organise a last-minute package break in the Lake District. Even if you’re only going as a spectator, in which case the swim is free to watch.
