Things to do in Windermere

You’ll never run out of things to do in Windermere, however, if this is your first time visiting the Lake District we will help get you started!

Things to do in Windermere

Here we take a brief look at some of the following things to do in Windermere:

  • Countryside Walks
  • Local Attractions
  • Pubs and Restaurants
  • Lake Windermere

Countryside Walks

The chances are you’re already well aware of Cumbria’s amazing scenery, so it goes without saying you should take a moment to enjoy the views. However, going for walks in the Lake District is something much more special.

You only need to read up on the great fell walker Alfred Wainwright to appreciate just how many routes there are to choose between. As for Windermere in particular, try hiking to the top of Orrest Head or appreciate the views from across Loughrigg Tarn.

Local Attractions

Windermere is popular for many reasons, from award-winning days out such as the Lakes Aquarium to museum honouring its past residents. The latter having once upon a time included childhood author Beatrix Potter, whereby the home of Peter Rabbit has long since become one of Windermere’s most loved attractions.

Meanwhile, you can find more things to do in Windermere, just a stone’s throw from our Boutique Spa Suites. In fact, the Windermere Lake Cruises provide a leisurely trip along the water, while the Lakeside Railway can take you further into Cumbria and beyond.

As you jump on the train you may wish to visit Muncaster Castle, Dove Cottage or see the animals at the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis in Milnthorpe. While staying a little closer to home, there’s the visitor centre at Brockhole on Windermere or the Lakeland Motor Museum.

Lake Windermere

As well as the Windermere Lake Cruises, the largest body of water in the Lake District will soon become the focal point of your spa break. It’s perfect for those early morning walks, romantic picnic spots or something much more adventurous.

Lake Windermere has everything on offer, from wild swimming and paddleboarding to private boat hire and much more. With various bars, cafés and restaurants nearby you can certainly make a day of it!

Pubs and Restaurants

It doesn’t matter if it’s a fry up for breakfast, fish and chips for lunch or an Indian curry house for dinner. You may well be on a healthy spa break in Windermere, but you can still treat yourself along the way.
