Things to do in March 2020 in the Lake District

There are always things to do in March in the Lake District, with the year 2020 as no exception. In fact, many of our ideas are well-established annual events, that we would recommend year after year.

5 Things to do in March 2020

As well as the chance to embrace the countryside outside of the summer season, March in the Lake District is a beautiful time to visit. The change of season is upon us, with the surrounding views a wash of colour. The cool crisp air provides the perfect walking conditions, while many of Cumbria’s local attractions remain open to the public.

Meanwhile, there are also the following things to do in March, that take place each year:

  • Coniston Road Race
  • Spring Beer Fest
  • Life Home and Garden Show
  • Dove Cottage Poetry
  • Farmers Markets

Coniston Road Race

The Coniston Road Race takes place Saturday 21st March 2020. There’s still time to register, whereby entrants have the chance to take on the challenging run around Coniston Water. Although other competitions may be bigger, you will struggle to find another road race that takes place in such glorious surroundings. Not only that, but you’ll certainly benefit from the hot tub back at your spa hotel in Windermere!

Hawkshead Brewery

If keeping fit isn’t so much your thing, then the Hawkshead Brewery offers the chance to sample the other great things in life. In particular, locally brewed ale, made on-site at the Hawkshead Brewery as well as featuring guest ales from the local area. The Spring Beer Fest 2020 is from Friday 20th March to Sunday 22nd March.

Cumbria Life Home and Garden Show

The Rheged Centre will attract visitors from far and wide the weekend prior. As the annual event returns on the 13th March, running all weekend. It’s the opportunity to consider new ideas for your home and garden, with a little influence from the Lake District.

Dover Cottage Poetry Club

Whether you’re a budding writer or just looking to take up a new hobby, everyone is welcome at the Dove Cottage Poetry Club. Held at the once home of world-famous poet William Wordsworth, it’s the chance to get together with likeminded individuals. As well, of course, a chance to look around Dove Cottage itself.

Cumbria Farmers’ Markets

While farmers’ markets in the Lake District aren’t exclusive to March, there are certainly a lot of them about. Although nearby Kendal, is one of our personal favourites. The chance to pick up some local produce, while supporting independent traders in a place well-known for its own delicacy of Kendal Mint Cake.
