Surrounding yourself in wonderful scenery is just one reason to visit the Lake District. Although here at the Windermere Boutique Spa Suites we may be slightly biased, we’re also incredibly proud of our location.
Recent surveys (carried out pre-pandemic) indicate over 15-million people visit the Lake District each year. While not everyone spends their holiday in Windermere, it is by large the most popular region within Cumbria.
It’s easy to see why too, with the contrast of the vast Lake Windermere and the picturesque village of Bowness situated upon its banks. There’s plenty to see and do within the area too. With everything from world-famous attractions to independent traders and little local bars and cafés.
What’s the Weather Like in Windermere
As the summer comes to a close, the question on many holiday-makers lips is what’s the weather going to be like in October? Well, although we can’t control the elements, we can of course give you some finer details on what to expect.
Average temperatures can vary throughout the month, ranging from 10-15 degrees C during the day down to approx. 5 degrees late at night. Having said that, we’re currently halfway through September and as we post this the sun is shining. So much so in fact, we had to double-check the calendar!
It goes without saying it may rain during your visit, although anything worse is unlikely. So don’t let the weather distract you. In fact, it can largely play in your favour.
Autumn itself is a wonderful time of year, especially in this part of the country. There are some incredible views to be seen as you look out across a wash of Autumnal colours. In turn, creating the most awe-inspiring sunrises and most-romantic early evening sunsets.
Things to do near Windermere in October
October holidays in the Lake District aren’t all about spa breaks, hot tubs and spending your days lounging in a boutique hotel. Not that we can blame you mind! However, there’s a whole world of activities available on your doorstep.
In the event of unsettled weather, there are a range of indoor attractions. Including the likes of the Windermere Jetty Museum, the Aquarium and the World of Beatrix Potter. Alternatively, if you wish to escape for the day via public transport, travel in style with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway or choose from a variety of lake cruises.
As for those busy annual events and festivals, October is often appealing as it’s outside of the tourist season. Although we still recommend keeping an eye on official listings for other ideas on how to spend your time away.
