Some of the biggest events in the Lake District this August take place over the Bank Holiday. So here we take a brief look at two of them. In particular Grasmere Lakeland Sports and the Cartmel Cup Day, both appealing to those who love the outdoors.

Grasmere Lakeland Sports

Grasmere Lakeland Sports takes place Sunday, 25th August 2019. Agriculture and country shows are popular within the Lake District all year however Grasmere Sports is one of the most renowned. Attracting 1000’s of visitors each year, the annual show has been running since 1852. It’s the chance to take part in a number of traditional Cumbrian sports, such as Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, fell running and hound trails.

Entry on the day costs £12 for adults and £5 for children aged 5 to 14. If you are taking part, it’s a good time to focus on your personal fitness, although it doesn’t leave you long to start training!

Cartmel Cup Day

Another regular date on the Cumbrian calendar during August Bank Holiday is Cartmel Cup Day. Cartmel racecourse is set against a beautiful backdrop, with races once run by the monks of Cartmel Priory.

The August Bank Holiday meet is on both Saturday 24th August and Monday 26th August. During which the best horses and riders hoping to take home the prize fund. Prices for each day vary, depending on the enclosure and if you buy your ticket on the day or in advance.
