Here we take a look at just 10 attraction in the Lake District. Including the most popular, the unusual and the unmissable.
The World of Beatrix Potter
It’s one of the popular attractions in the Lake District among children and adults alike. The original stories from Beatrix Potter have taken on a new lease of life since last years Peter Rabbit film. As such this attraction in Windermere continues to thrive.
Staying with Beatrix Potter, Hill Top in Cumbria was once home to the famous author. While giving an insight into the inspiration behind the books, Hill Top has expanded to much more besides.
Another firm favourite among those who are on a holiday in the Lake District. The aquarium features an array of waterlife, including fish, sharks and stingrays. As well as the fascinating diving ducks.
Derwent Pencil Museum
Certainly one of the more unusual attractions in the Lake District and possible in the UK. However, Cumbria is quite rightly proud to honour the humble pencil. The first-ever pencil was made on this site, a piece of stationery we’ve long since taken for granted.
Castlerigg Stone Circle
It may not be as commonly known or as famous as Stone Henge, but Castlerigg Stone Circle is just as important. Dating back to Neolithic England, the stones have played a pivotal role in Druid and Pagan rituals.
Lowther Castle & Gardens
While the castle itself has undergone various restoration projects over the years, in essence, it remains true to its 17th-century origins. As for the surroundings, it sits upon 130 acres of land, dedicated to wonderful gardens, endangered wildlife and stunning views.
Blackwell Arts & Crafts House
Castles and stately homes are among some of the more popular attractions in the Lake District, with Blackwell being no different. While built in 1899/1900 it’s relatively modern by comparison to some, historically it is just as important.
Whinlatter Go Ape
Other than the likes of Orrest Head and Scafell Pike, Go Ape is one of the highest attractions in the Lake District. Providing a challenging tree-top adventure of rope ladders and zip wires.
